The Chalice Condition
First she feels it. Then it comes back.
When someone looks directly into Chalice’s eyes, she absorbs their strongest emotion. Later, that emotion returns carrying a fragment of something she was never meant to witness.
The Condition
An emotion without an explanation.
No thoughts. No memories. No context. Only terror, grief, desire, shame, rage, or relief—felt as if it were her own. The contact lasts only moments. The uncertainty lasts much longer.
Two Stages
The first contact frightens her. The waiting changes her.
The encounter
Their eyes meet. Chalice is overwhelmed by a feeling that does not belong to her. The stranger walks away, leaving her with no way to know what the emotion means.
The return
Hours or days later, the emotion comes back with a sound, place, sensation, image, or sentence. It may be a memory, a warning, or something that has not happened yet.

The Waiting
Ordinary details begin to feel like warnings.
She cannot summon the revelation. She cannot stop it. She only knows that once she has felt someone deeply enough, it will eventually find her.
A sound
Water dripping inside a room she knows is locked.
A trace
Mud beneath her fingernails or a wet footprint beside her bed.
A warning
A stranger at the end of a hallway that does not exist: “You were supposed to stop me.”

Through narrated still images, sound, subtle motion, and cinematic fragments, Chalice records what she sees—and tries to decide whether she is observing these events or being drawn into them.
The emotion tells Chalice that something exists. The revelation forces her closer to it.
